For many families, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is hallowed ground. Each year thousands of people visit this site to pay their respects, lay wreaths and take impressions of officers' engraved names. For some, the mere act of touching a person's name brings back a flood of memories. They remember the life the person lead, the memories they shared together and the sacrifice that person made. Others visitors sit in quiet contemplation. They reflect on the advice each person might offer in times of despair, the virtues they held throughout their lives and the feeling of what it was like to be around them.
